BRIDGETOWN, 15 March, – At a press conference held at the Mount Gay Visitors’ Centre to announce the ‘homecoming’ performance of legendary DJ and global music icon, Barbadian Carl Cox, BTA Chairman Adrian Elcock endorsed the visit and congratulated the hosts Illusions Entertainment on their “commitment to excellence” in promoting dance music events in Barbados.

Addressing members of the media Elcock commended this type of initiative, expressing the view that this event met all the attributes that had been identified as part of the BTA’s strategic initiatives for this year and that it was a significant pillar in the entertainment and events arena. Recognising Cox’s achievements Elcock stated that it was a great opportunity to partner with someone who demonstrates the qualities necessary to meet those initiatives – Barbadian, best of class, with a tremendous reach and following – referring to it as a “win win” for Barbados and the BTA strategy.

Carl Cox, is considered by fans and leading international music magazines as “the best DJ in the world” with an international following of over 12 million, many of whom travel around the world to attend his many sold-out concerts in destinations as far-flung as Serbia, Belgium, London, Spain, Las Vegas and Miami. Cox, who currently resides in Australia will also use this opportunity to spend time with his Barbadian parents, family and friends who live on the island.

Carl Cox has dominated the electronic dance music scene in the UK and across Europe for the past two decades, having first become famous at the Sunrise rave in 1988, where he hooked up a third turntable for his dawn-breaking set, got 15,000 people back on their feet, and established a personal reputation for three-deck wizardry. He has a massive geographic reach and is considered a living legend in Eastern Europe, which fits perfectly with the BTA’s growth plans, as Elcock informed the audience that this area is Barbados’ fastest growing market with a significant amount of visitors arriving in Barbados from Russia.

Elcock also touched briefly on the BTA’s other marketing efforts in Europe and made mention of their planned promotion of Corrie’s very successful bi-annual event The Music Factory, Pop, Dance and House music festival which is currently receiving attention both regionally and internationally.

Known for introducing Dance Music Events to Barbados, director of Illusions Entertainment, Craig Corrie expressed his satisfaction with the progression of house music in the region and echoed the sentiments of Adrian Elcock who knows from personal experience that Illusions “throw a great party” and always manage to “pack the place off”. Corrie says that Illusions will be working closely with world-renowned female DJ Nicole Moudaber, who happens to be a close friend of Carl’s and who is the one responsible for conceptualising the event.

Illusions Entertainment will welcome Carl at a dinner reception at one of the top restaurants on the west coast, Cin Cin for approximately 100 guests, including representatives from the Barbados Government and the BTA. Two days later on April 20th, the Illusions team will transform the Sugar Ultra Lounge in St. Lawrence Gap (formerly The Ship Inn) where Carl will showcase his talents to enthusiastic followers of dance music.

Reservations for both events are already being received via Caribbean Events Hub.com for both events from persons across the region and internationally.

Illusions Entertainment has now become the undisputed leader and driving force behind the Electronic and Dance movement in Barbados and the brand that will shape its direction in the coming years.

PRESS RELEASE

BRIDGETOWN, 01 March, – During the month of April, Illusions Entertainment will host two events for global House music icon Carl Cox, who returns to Barbados to showcase his talents as an international DJ.

Quoted by fans and leading international music magazines as “the best DJ in the world’ Carl Cox has been part of Britain’s dance scene from the days of disco right through to the global clubland of the new millennium.

Referred to as ‘musical ambassador’, Cox, who was born in the UK to Bajan parents, began his musical journey at the age of eight and became a professional DJ in his early teens. Since then he has excelled as a producer, artist, re-mixer, radio DJ and businessman. As anyone who has met him will attest, Carl Cox is the living embodiment of the perfect gentleman and progressive music pioneer.

Carl has numerous shows lined up at some of the best clubs and festivals around the world in 2012, including a headline performance at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami, which attracts 150,000 fans. He has also celebrated an astounding ten-year residency at the club that was voted #1 Club in The World in 2011 ‘Space’ in Ibiza where he and his management group have built up his weekly residency into one of the island’s most popular nights. His Barbados show however, is one that is very close to his heart as he considers this his homecoming performance, especially in light of the fact that many of his family members will likely be in the audience, including his mum and dad who both reside in Barbados.

In addition to his live performances, Carl Cox also hosts a global radio show which continues to break records, with over 12-million listeners worldwide and syndicated across 60 terrestrial FM, Satellite and Digital Audio Broadcasting stations throughout 35 countries, making him one of the most important broadcasters on the planet!

With all of this Carl is quoted as saying “after the Ibiza seasons, after all the festivals I’ve done, after my own events, albums and remixing, the story still continues in a massive way – there’s so much more still to come”.

Hosts Illusions Entertainment, spearheaded by Managing Director Craig Corrie, are the recognised leaders of the dance music movement in Barbados, having recently presented The Music Factory, Barbados’ first Pop, Dance and House music festival, which has been receiving rave reviews in Barbados and beyond. Mr Corrie who is an avid dance music fan is thrilled to have the opportunity to showcase the achievements of yet another Bajan, who is perhaps not as well known within the Caribbean.

Illusions Entertainment will be working closely with world-renowned DJ/producer Nicole Moudaber, who is well known among the world’s DJ elite and the driving force behind the ‘Homecoming’ event. After a youth spent in Africa and the Middle East, Nicole exploded onto the New York club scene and was quickly identified by Carl Cox as exactly the kind of fresh talent he wanted to have playing at his weekly nights at Space in Ibiza, where Nicole has now appeared regularly alongside Carl for three seasons.

Craig and Nicole’s efforts will be supported by the phenomenal design team at Barbados’ leading special event design house Events Unusual, whose Design Director Emma Corrie has previously created extraordinary settings for Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams, Gloria Estefan and other musical icons and promises to deliver an impressive setting for the upcoming performance.

Fans of dance music can expect to be entertained by local House music DJs Paul DeCoteau and Abraham Norville before Carl Cox takes the stage.

Illusions Entertainment will also host a dinner reception at one of the island’s top restaurants Cin Cin for a limited number of guests, including representatives from the Barbados Government and the Barbados Tourism Authority. The BTA continues to support events which attract tourists to the island and reservations have already been received via Caribbean Events Hub from persons across the region who are planning to attend the Carl Cox weekend in Barbados.

04 February 2012, Barbados

The National Cultural Foundation have recently published all of the dates for the much anticipated Crop Over Season which begins on 30 June with the Opening Gala and Ceremonial Delivery of the Last Canes and climaxes with Grand Kadooment on 06 August.

Crop Over is a traditional harvest festival which began in Barbados, having had its early beginnings on the sugar cane plantations during the colonial period. The crop over tradition began in 1688, and featured singing, dancing and accompaniment by bottles filled with water, shak shak, banjo, triangle, fiddle, guitar and bones. Other traditions included climbing a greased pole, feasting and drinking competitions. Originally a celebration signaling the end of the yearly sugar cane harvest, it has since evolved into Barbados’ biggest national festival similar to Carnival in Brazil and Trinidad.
