BRIDGETOWN, 15 March, – At a press conference held at the Mount Gay Visitors’ Centre to announce the ‘homecoming’ performance of legendary DJ and global music icon, Barbadian Carl Cox, BTA Chairman Adrian Elcock endorsed the visit and congratulated the hosts Illusions Entertainment on their “commitment to excellence” in promoting dance music events in Barbados.
Addressing members of the media Elcock commended this type of initiative, expressing the view that this event met all the attributes that had been identified as part of the BTA’s strategic initiatives for this year and that it was a significant pillar in the entertainment and events arena. Recognising Cox’s achievements Elcock stated that it was a great opportunity to partner with someone who demonstrates the qualities necessary to meet those initiatives – Barbadian, best of class, with a tremendous reach and following – referring to it as a “win win” for Barbados and the BTA strategy.
Carl Cox, is considered by fans and leading international music magazines as “the best DJ in the world” with an international following of over 12 million, many of whom travel around the world to attend his many sold-out concerts in destinations as far-flung as Serbia, Belgium, London, Spain, Las Vegas and Miami. Cox, who currently resides in Australia will also use this opportunity to spend time with his Barbadian parents, family and friends who live on the island.
Carl Cox has dominated the electronic dance music scene in the UK and across Europe for the past two decades, having first become famous at the Sunrise rave in 1988, where he hooked up a third turntable for his dawn-breaking set, got 15,000 people back on their feet, and established a personal reputation for three-deck wizardry. He has a massive geographic reach and is considered a living legend in Eastern Europe, which fits perfectly with the BTA’s growth plans, as Elcock informed the audience that this area is Barbados’ fastest growing market with a significant amount of visitors arriving in Barbados from Russia.
Elcock also touched briefly on the BTA’s other marketing efforts in Europe and made mention of their planned promotion of Corrie’s very successful bi-annual event The Music Factory, Pop, Dance and House music festival which is currently receiving attention both regionally and internationally.
Known for introducing Dance Music Events to Barbados, director of Illusions Entertainment, Craig Corrie expressed his satisfaction with the progression of house music in the region and echoed the sentiments of Adrian Elcock who knows from personal experience that Illusions “throw a great party” and always manage to “pack the place off”. Corrie says that Illusions will be working closely with world-renowned female DJ Nicole Moudaber, who happens to be a close friend of Carl’s and who is the one responsible for conceptualising the event.
Illusions Entertainment will welcome Carl at a dinner reception at one of the top restaurants on the west coast, Cin Cin for approximately 100 guests, including representatives from the Barbados Government and the BTA. Two days later on April 20th, the Illusions team will transform the Sugar Ultra Lounge in St. Lawrence Gap (formerly The Ship Inn) where Carl will showcase his talents to enthusiastic followers of dance music.
Reservations for both events are already being received via Caribbean Events Hub.com for both events from persons across the region and internationally.
